Springfield Armory

Springfield Armory: A Legacy Worth Defending

The name goes back to the National Armory of 1794 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The company that carries it today dates to 1974, and the Reese family built it in Geneseo, Illinois, around one rifle: the M1A, a civilian version of the military service rifle. Fifty years on, Springfield Armory is still family-run, still in Geneseo, still building that rifle, and now fields one of the broadest handgun catalogs going.

Its tagline is Defend Your Legacy, and the catalog reads the same way: the M1A and the 1911 are treated as living designs, not museum pieces, and every newer gun has to earn its place beside them. The XD, born of a 2001 partnership with a Croatian factory, became a holster fixture. The Hellcat set the pace for micro-compact 9mm carry pistols. The Echelon rethought the modular duty pistol. The Prodigy put a double-stack 1911 within reach of shooters who had only admired one from across the range.

That is why shooters pick Springfield: the lineup has no weak rung, from a forged 1911 for a first-time buyer to a hand-fitted one for a collector, from a nightstand pistol to a rifle for elk country.

Springfield Armory Models We Stock

Concealed carry: the Hellcat family

  • Hellcat OSP: the 3 in barrel micro-compact that made Springfield a household name in everyday carry, in 9mm and .380 ACP.
  • Hellcat Pro: a 3.7 in barrel and a full grip that hides nearly as well as the original and shoots much more like a full-size gun.
  • Hellcat Pro Comp OSP and Hellcat RDP: the same guns with a compensator to flatten muzzle rise; the RDP comes with the red dot already mounted.

Full size and duty: Echelon, XD-M and XD

  • Echelon: Springfield's modular striker-fired duty pistol, built on a removable steel chassis with a direct-mount optic system. The 4.5F is the full-size; the 4.0C and 4.0 FC bring it down to carry size; the Comp versions add a compensator.
  • XD-M Elite: the mature XD-M with a flat-faced match trigger, in 10mm for shooters who want more authority from a polymer pistol.
  • XD and XD-S Mod.2: the pistols that built Springfield's striker-fired reputation, from the XD and the updated Mod.3 and Mod.4 to the slim XD-S Mod.2 in .45 ACP.

1911s: from Mil-Spec to Prodigy

  • Mil-Spec: the forged 5 in barrel .45 ACP that looks and handles like the issue pistol. The starting point.
  • Garrison: a clean, traditional 1911 in blued or stainless, 4.25 in or 5 in barrel, 9mm or .45 ACP.
  • Ronin and Ronin EMP: forged and two-tone, the everyday 1911 that gets shot a lot; the EMP versions bring it down to carry size.
  • Operator: the rail-framed working 1911, up to a 5.75 in barrel, with AOS versions cut for optics.
  • TRP: the Tactical Response Pistol, descended from the 1911 Springfield built for the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, Classic or AOS.
  • Emissary: all steel, squared trigger guard, Tri-Top slide; half custom shop and half carry gun.
  • Prodigy: the 1911 DS, a double-stack 9mm with an optics-ready slide in 3.5 in, 4.25 in and 5 in barrel lengths, and the one built for competition.
  • SA-35: not a 1911, but it lives on the same shelf. Springfield's take on the classic single-action 9mm service pistol, in blued steel with walnut grips.

Rifles: M1A, SAINT and Model 2020

  • M1A: the rifle that started the company, in .308 Winchester. The Standard and Loaded keep the 22 in barrel; the Scout Squad cuts it to 18 in; the SOCOM 16 brings it down to 16.25 in.
  • SAINT and SAINT Victor: Springfield's AR-15 line in 5.56 NATO and .308 Winchester, up to the SAINT Victor V2 with B5 furniture, plus the SA-16 A2 with a 20 in barrel and A2 furniture.
  • Hellion: a 16 in barrel .223 bullpup from the Croatian partner behind the XD.
  • Model 2020: the bolt-action line. The Waypoint is the carbon-fiber-stocked hunting rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 7mm PRC, .308 Winchester and .300 Winchester Magnum; the Heatseeker and Redline are the short, light versions; the Rimfire Target is the .22 LR trainer.
