Daniel Defense: Built, Not Assembled
Daniel Defense began behind a garage-door business in Garden City, Georgia, with a flattop upper receiver Marty Daniel had machined for his own rifle. By 2002 his rail systems were on U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit rifles, and in 2003 a ten-by-ten SHOT Show booth won him a shot at a Special Operations Command contract for a free-float M4A1 forend. Marty's father put the family farm up as collateral to fund the prototypes. The small shop beat the big defense contractors, shipped the first RIS II rails in 2006, and still supplies them today.
The first complete rifle, the DDM4, followed in 2009, along with one of the few cold hammer forge machines in the country. That purchase set the tone. Daniel Defense makes nearly every part it sells, barrels through stocks, and Cerakotes them in-house in Black Creek, Georgia. The company sums itself up as freedom, passion, and precision, and its product pages back that up with details engineers care about: 7075-T6 receivers, chrome-lined barrels that are HP and MPI tested, properly staked gas keys.
That is why shooters choose the brand. A Daniel is the rifle you buy once, recommend to the friend who asks what to get, and then stop thinking about. Reviewers keep landing in the same place: the DDM4 V7 is the sensible default for most people, and the rest of the line is built to the same standard.

The Daniel Defense lineup we stock is mostly 5.56 carbines and rifles, backed by the large-frame DD5, the Delta 5 Pro bolt gun, a handful of AR pistols, and complete uppers for anyone building on their own lower.
5.56 carbines and rifles
- DDM4 V7 - the flagship: 16 in cold hammer forged barrel, mid-length gas, MFR 15.0 M-LOK rail, ambidextrous charging handle. The do-everything AR, and where most people should start.
- DDM4 V7 Pro - the same rifle with an 18 in barrel for competition and longer shots.
- DDM4 V7 Super Lightweight - the V7 on a slimmer build for shooters who carry a rifle more than they bench it.
- M4A1 - the closest thing to the SOCOM carbine in the line, wearing the RIS II rail. We stock it in standard and Mil Spec+ finishes.
- M4A1 RIII and DD4 RIII - the current generation. RIII is the two-piece rail: six-bolt mount, M-LOK, built-in QD points, and a removable lower half. The DD4 RIII runs a 16 in barrel.
- MK18 - the 10.3 in gun everyone recognizes, sold here as a pistol and as a complete upper.
- MK12 and SPRIII - the precision 5.56 rifles: 18 in cold hammer forged stainless barrel, rifle-length gas, Geissele SSA trigger. The SPRIII is the newer evolution with a 15 in RIS III rail, Magpul PRS Lite stock, and a fully ambidextrous lower.
- DDM4 V9 - a 16 in barrel under a full quad Picatinny rail, for shooters who prefer Picatinny to M-LOK.
- DD PCC - a 9 mm carbine with a 16 in barrel and a hydraulic buffer that takes the snap out of a blowback action.
Large frame and precision
- DD5 V4 and DD5 V5 - the large-frame semi-auto, introduced in 2015. The V4 runs an 18 in barrel in .308 Winchester or 6.5 Creedmoor; the V5 stretches to 20 in in 6.5 Creedmoor. We also stock the DD5 P, a 12.5 in 7.62 pistol.
- Delta 5 Pro - the bolt-action chassis rifle with a fully adjustable stock and owner-swappable barrels. We carry it in .308 with a 20 in barrel and in 6.5 Creedmoor with 18 in and 26 in barrels.
AR pistols, uppers, and the H9
- DDM4 pistols - a 7 in .300 Blackout and a 10.3 in 5.56, built like the rifles.
- Complete uppers - DDM4 V7 16 in M-LOK, MK18, DD4 RIIIS, and the M4A1 FSP in Flat Dark Earth. Drop one on your own lower and you have the half of the rifle that matters most.
- H9 - Daniel Defense bought the original H9 patents and re-engineered the pistol for a 2024 release: a metal-frame, striker-fired 9 mm with a 4.28 in barrel, a straight-pull 1911-style trigger, and an optics-ready slide. Unlike anything else Daniel Defense makes.
