Browning
Some names need no introduction. John Moses Browning started filing patents out of a shop in Ogden, Utah in 1879 and did not stop until he held 128 of them. The humpback autoloader, Browning's original over-and-under, the 1911, the BAR: he drew the outline of the modern sporting gun, and the company that carries his name has spent the century since filling it in. Browning is headquartered in Morgan, Utah today and belongs to the FN Herstal family, with its guns built by FN in Belgium and Miroku in Japan under partnerships that go back generations. The Buck Mark pistol is still made in the United States.
Shooters come to Browning for a reason the spec sheet cannot capture. A Browning is the gun you buy once. Walnut that is actually walnut, bluing with depth to it, an action that closes with a sound you can pick out across a room. Browning talks about its guns in terms of the field, not the bench, and the current lineup earns it: the Citori 825 and X-Bolt 2 drew strong reviews at launch for refining designs that already worked.

Bolt-action rifles
- X-Bolt 2 is the flagship: a short 60-degree bolt lift, Browning's user-adjustable DLX trigger, and a flush detachable magazine that drops free. We stock it as the walnut-and-blued Hunter, the Composite and Composite Stainless for hard weather, and the Medallion, Medallion Maple and White Gold Medallion for the hunter who wants the rifle to look the part. Chamberings run from .243 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor through 7mm PRC and .300 Win Mag.
- AB3 in Hunter, Stalker and Composite trim is the plain-spoken way into a Browning bolt gun: a solid deer rifle in .270, .30-06, .308 and 7mm Rem Mag with the extras left off.
Semi-auto shotguns
- A5 brought the humpback receiver back on a recoil-operated Kinematic Drive action that Browning says will run come hell or high water. The A5 Hunter is the walnut all-rounder, the A5 Wicked Wing is dressed for the marsh, the A5 Sweet Sixteen revives the 16 gauge, and the A5 Upland is the light, quick 20 gauge for birds over dogs.
- Maxus II is the gas gun, built on the Power Drive piston: softer on the shoulder and happy across a wide range of loads. We carry the Stalker, Wicked Wing and Camo for the blind, and the Ultimate and Ultimate Maple for the clays course.
- Silver Field and Silver Field Hunter are the working autoloaders in 12 and 20 gauge, the ones that ride in the truck all dove season.
Over-and-under shotguns
- Citori 825 is the newest chapter in a line that descends straight from Browning's original over-and-under: a lower-profile forged receiver, the Fire Lite 2 trigger, and the full-width hinge pin lockup that has kept Citoris in service for fifty years. The 825 Field with 28 in barrels is the upland gun; the 30 in and 32 in versions are built for sporting clays.
- Citori 725 Sporting and the Citori Hunter cover the clays shooter and the traditionalist in 12 and 20 gauge.
- CXS is Browning's crossover: one gun set up to shoot skeet, sporting and the occasional pheasant without changing anything.
- Cynergy is the other Browning stackbarrel, with a look all its own. The Cynergy CX is the all-purpose clays gun; the Cynergy Wicked Wing puts a 3.5 in chamber and camo on an over-and-under for the waterfowler who prefers two barrels.
Rimfire and pistols
- Buck Mark has been the .22 pistol to beat since 1985, and it is still built in the United States. We stock the Camper, Plus, Practical and Lite, the long-barreled Hunter, and the Vision.
- 1911-22 A1 and 1911-380 Black Label are Browning's scaled-down takes on John Browning's most famous pistol, sized to the cartridge: the .22 for cheap trigger time, the .380 as a compact 1911 that still points like one.
- SA-22, BL-22 and the BAR round it out: the SA-22 rimfire autoloader traces straight to John Browning's own drawings, the BL-22 is the lever-action .22 a lot of us learned on, and the BAR in .300 Win Mag is the semi-auto big-game rifle.
